Abstract
This study was carried out on 288 eyes of 144 primary school students who didn¡¯t have strabismus or amblyopia, had never worn glasses, and complained about naked acuity. The change of refractive error for noncycloplegic and cycloplegic were measured using autorefractometer and retinoscope. The spherical equivalents of noncycloplegic and cycloplegic measured using autorefractometer were -1.40D¡¾1.04 and -0.77D¡¾1.32, respectively, showing that the cycloplegic refraction was significantly lower than manifest refraction by approximately -0.63D(t = -13.49, p < 0.05). With the retinoscope as well, the spherical equivalents for noncycloplegic and cycloplegic were -1.06D¡¾1.03 and -0.91D¡¾1.27, respectively, showing that the cycloplegic refraction was significantly lower than the manifest refraction by approximately -0.15D(t = -4.17, p < 0.05).
